For old time's sake

Huh, its been nearly a year since i last wrote a blog, that's ridiculous. I feel i should wait for 3 days so i can blog exactly a year later but that would just make me a geek and i would probably forget 8-]

Do not fear, im not gonna recap my year, as there wouldnt really be much to say and would only reveal how sad my life was during the second year of IB. So lets skip, 362 days to what happened today.

I started work at 4am (who knew such a time existed before working at the aiport, because it really shouldn't >_<) where there was the longest queue ever, and i thought 'Oh god it is gonna be one of those days'. However, my career as a psychic will be ruined as i discovered it was not, i actually had quite a good day. The first eventful thing of the day was a rather charismatic and charming man (maybe overly so) ordering a cappuccino (lucky i only have to make them and not spell them =s) who spoke to everyone, but in their own language. It was quite amazing, he asked where one of my colleagues was from [bulgaria] than began to speak to her in bulgarian, then guessed another was Polish and began to speak to her in Polish, and is apparently off to Russia to learn Russian, unbelievable aye?! I wish i had such an aptitude for language, sadly not.

Then, a gentleman came up in a stripy polo shirt with the harlequins emblem on and i thought, ' wonder if thats a rugby shirt' but mentioned no more. Then m'colleague said to me, 'oh there's a lot of men in stripy shirts over there' and i thought maybe it is sometihng to do with rugby, maybe a youth team or something of the sort. Then when i was sitting on my break four of the men in striped shirts walked past and i looked at them and thought, yeah they look like rugby players. There was however a burning in my brain as i recognised the one closest to me in the line. I couldn't quite figure out how i knew them or why i recognised them an then it struck me....It was Mike Brown, Harlequins and England full-back, i could not believe it, i was totally starstruck (what a geek aye?! 8-p). And then the whole senior squad walked past, most mnotably Rory Clegg. I really wa awe-struck i was in mobbing distance of England internationals, it was pretty awesome! But i love how down to earth rugby players were, if they were footballers there is no way they would check in with the commoners.

And Oh My Gawd, i served the most awkward woman today. She asked for a flatbread, and when i asked her if she wanted it toasted she said not, when i told her it would probably be made better toasted she said 'but im taking it away to eat later', so i offered maybe she should have something else. I recommend a cheese and tomato baguette, closest to what was in her flatbread, wrapped it up and put it in a bag for her and then she changed her mind, back to the flatbread. She took her flatbread and returned two minutes later to ask to have it toasted as it taste odd not toasted (like i said it would) and then specifically asked if i could not touch it with my hands once it had come off the toaster. I couldnt not believe it, she then moaneed that she had made the wrong choice, to which i kept my mouth shut as i had led her to a better chouce to take away and she ignored. Grrr, some people. But i was polite and smiled while she made me run round after her.

Anywhooo, i feel that a nap may be about to overtake me. Im gonna go back and read all my old blogs too and see how pointless and awful they are.

Mon 6th July

5am. Woke with a start and was absoloutely terrified for some reason. That shortly subsided to annoyance at an incessant rooster. Finally got up at 7a.m no thanks to my alarm clock that didn't go off. Packed my day bag and went down to breakfast that was fried egg, 'sausage'(not sure what meat it was) and toast.

We then all crammed into an ambulance that drove us to S.t Francis. No seatbelts and bumpy road made for an interesting ride, who needs Alton towers?, and when we arrived at St. Francis Vikcy fell out the ambulance, leaving her shoe behind. Mixed emotions walking around St. Francis.

All the people there were really nice and friendly and the centre was an excellent place, really helping people with HIV/AIDs. however, we were invited into wards where there were sick patients and that felt really awkward and also a bit emotional. We were then given a tour of where we were gonna build our garden and saw some school children walk past who were so cute and greeted everyone of us. Then we had lunch and for the first time had Matoke, which was really nice! Also had maize, which was a bit tasteless so not sure if i'll eat that again. When the woman was telling us what all the different foods were she introduced the normal boiled potatoes as 'Irish'! Lol.

We then had a mini-cirlce time then went to a school. The building looked quite run down (we later found out that it was only a two year old building) and there were signs in the school yard that were really disturbing: 'Avoid sugar daddies', 'Don't accept gifts for sex', 'Virginity is safe', 'avoid bas touches', 'defilement is bad'.

The children in this school were about 5 so it's terrifying to think that these things are so common but children wouldn't know better if peadophilia wasnt so blatantly discouraged in education.

When we walked into a class the children would stand up and sing a welcome song to you, they were all so cute and friendly. You feel like such a celebrity when you are welcomed in such a way.

Just outside the school and health centre are some huge arse cows and goats just wondering around.

We came back home on the ambulance with a bit less drama this time and after being back for about 10mins we discover Vicky is locked in the toilet(she was that happy that they flushed =p), though none of the teachers seemed to care so all us students were there to give her moral support by passing her books toblerone and singing to her. When Sufian finally decided to show some compassion there were dodgey renditions of Hero, Wheels on the bus, Cupid Shuffle and in the Jungle. Vicky tried to film how she got stuck in the toilet (the handle has come off and wasnt turning the mechanism) though while she was explaining what was wrong with the handle she was filming the toilet wall. The hotel staff were eventually able to take a handle from another room and relase Vicky from the toilet, she must have been in there for about 40 minutes altogether. After another circle time we had dinner (the food is unbelievably good!), where a whole load of bats flew over, collected sports equipment to give to Sally and are now everyone is gathered in my room playing cheat.

5th July

So here is the first entry in my Uganda diary. It has been changed slightly because reading it back you could tell from my terrible english that it had been a long journey. Enjoy =]

I think it is fair to say that at the end of today most of us are tired, stressed and freaked-out. Or maybe that's just me and Sas after having that horrid bug in our room that we eventually had to kill, but back to the start: Heathrow.

After taking the scenic route to terminal 3 because me, mum and dad got lost we had to stand around a while until check in. Many people were breaking down as leaving your parents to go to uganda is a big thing and in the check-in queue i had to avoid the tears of others to avoid being set-off (again). Luckily, there were also some hot guys, code named 'hot dogs', to distracts us. After various intervals of walking and waiting we finally got on our first flight to Dubai.

The in-flight entertainment was unbelievably amazing! You could listen to music, watch films and tv shows. The music was friggin' amazing: Queen, Led Zepplin, Supertramp, David Bowie. I also watched hercules (well, skipped to the songs) and live at the apollo and i even found an episode of Blackadder!! <3 I didnt sleep on the flight although nearly everyone else did. I was sitting next to sas who fell asleep during the aristocats and woke every so often. The airplane was freezing and being tired makes it worse so i gave Sas my blanket.

Got off at Dubai to change over so found a toilet to change my top because i had split mango juice down my white vest =[ Got on to go to Addiss ababu (or something like that) where we would re-fuel and go onto entebbe. Slept through most of this flight but was rudely awoken for food and my malaria tablet. Met Erin and Melissa at Entebbe where we were told that our coach ride would be an hour and a half. Most people slept more on the coach but i couldn't. It was amazing driving through Uganda, such a pretty place (unbeleivably green) but you could see the poverty just from the road side. Lots of coke shops/ads, not sure if they were a good or bad thing. Our 1hr30min trip turned into 3 hours and we got to our hotel really late, but good news: there were flushing toilets!

Me and Sas were right on the top floor so i had to heave my 28kg suitcase up 6 flights of stairs while Sufian carried saskia's up. Went back down for a really nice dinner and told that lights out was at 10pm (it's now 10.20). The people living on our floor are listening to the most terrifying horror film, it's really creepy.

There was also a crazy bug in our room and me and sas hid in her bed under the mosquito net for about 10mins whilst deciding how to get rid of it. It was buzzing about by my suitcase and i was terrified. In the end i took on a superviser role and persuaded saskia to go out and spray it before squishing it with my sandal and scooping it up. Had a 'shower' a.k.a a drip of water that couldnt decide whethter to be hot or cold. After a bit more of a dilemma trying to figure out how Saskia's mossy net covered her bed saskia has discoverd that her shampoo has exploded in her bag, "God, it's everywhere", and she still hasnt had a shower. Things can only get better =]

Guess who's back...

So I am back in England and feeling a mixture of 'it's nice to be home' but also missing Uganda, those two weeks were not long enough!

As i arrived at heathrow at 7am this morning im kinda tired and not gonna do a proper blog yet, just post the collective one from lsfc website that we wrote

http://www.lutonsfc.ac.uk/greatgenerations/GGBlog.html

Did keep a journal, though it sort of fizzled out and i stopped writing it during the second week so that needs to be caught up, so to blog I'll basically copy that up for each day. So stay tuned!! =]

It's Been A Long Time Coming.

^(I love The Script! =])
It has been an extremely long-time since I have blogged and I feel slightly ashamed, where's my perseverance?!?!

So, a couple of weeks ago, I took what is fair to say the most stressful exams of my life so far. Been getting my results back slowly and fair to say a mixed bag. I dont plan to do Maths, Spanish or Biology and my results definately confirmed that! However, I do want to do History and my Paper 3 did not reflect that in anyway. Let's hope my paper 1 is substantially better (It couldn't really get worse.)

Yesterday, I got my last Jab ready for Uganda, 8/8 and i f***ing hate needles. It is only 2 weeks 'til we go, I can't believe it has come round so quick!! Flight there is 13hrs + a 2hr change over. I don't think the reality of the situation has really sunk in yet but when i do think about it i do feel quite nervous yet excited. Don't know what to expect but i know that i do have to squat over a hole to go to the toilet. What joy. >_<

I have also started driving recently. Being taught by my parents and it is going quite well so far. Started off a bit dodgey and extremely stressful but today I drove halfway from Bedford (only while it was dual carriage way and could be overtaken). First time in fifth gear and on roudnabouts and up to 55m/h. Not really smooth but we'll brush over that =p

I Say Britian...

You Say Talent. That is still in my head from all that time. And i think everyone in the world should have a gold suit like his. And learn to dance like the 73year old!

I really didnt have much to write, i have been revising like mad for stupid mocks and been rather stressed. Why do i need to know about American history? It's not like they're a big, important country nowadays... =s

So, i havent really left the house, except to give moral support to parents at University of bed. while they take exams (and getting sunburnt in the process), going to the gym and going to ASDA to get yummy chocolate cake and suntan lotion. I have, however, been watching Britians got Talent (i'm like an old spinster =s) And i think Susan Boyle is a bit overrated. Don't get me wrong she is a pretty good singer but a world-wdie success, hmmnn.... Shaheen was better and cuter. And shaun was hotter and picked a damn good song! Hollie, bless her, nearly bought me to tears. And i love Greg, perverse as that is. But he didnt get through :( The two dance groups are amazing but might not win just because votes for dance groups are split into two: half to each. So no group getting the full votes of dance group lovers. I am scarred for life by dreambears, especially the wardrobe malfunction! Anywhoooo. that is enough of my opinions. You all have your own and probably don't give a crap about me.

But one day im wanna try the ferero roche challenge. (maybe i should learn how to spell Ferrero roche first)

I should be revising...

...Yep, ive done very little revision for our exams in two weeks. Though my tutor things i've been pretty much sticking to a revision timetable... =s It wasnt a total lie, at least i have a timetable. After our talk in History i may just revise for that because i can imagine Dave getting angry if i dont do well in the History mock...And he is scary/angry Dave for a reason!

Yesterday i went to Luton Uni to sell cakes. Saskia's third person account of the day was very interesting, you should read that (because i cant be asked to re-tell it) Though i did no squatting whatsoever!! However, that day i also ate way too many cakes. Especially as all day i had only had 5 choccy hobnobs for breakfast then five cupcakes and a McDonalds for lunch. Not good. Though decorating cakes was fun.

Anyone, i really REALLY should be revising. And as i have already watched Gilmore Girls today i have no other reason for procrastinating. =]
